Sight Word Booklets
These 8-10 page booklets feature sight words or 'popcorn' words that can not always be sounded out, but beginning readers need to readily know. The booklets build upon each other,
with the later booklets repeating already introduced sight words. They are loosely coordinated to correspond with themes/seasons as the school year progresses. The table, below, will help
you to navigate among the booklets. Most of the booklets have (or will have, hopefully soon) multiple translations (Spanish, French, and German), big book versions, pocket chart pictures,
cut apart words and sentences, stamping sheets, and (coming in the near future) digital and audio formats. Most of the booklets are secular in nature, but a few do have Christian themes.

Contributors Who Have Helped to Enhance the Original Booklets
Several teachers have offered their talents to make the Sight Word Booklets easier to use with a wider range of students. Many thanks for their contributions and willingness to share with
other educators!
|
Big Book Versions and Pocket Chart Pictures
Martha Shehan, a Kindergarten teacher in Colorado, shares how she uses the sight word booklets weekly in her classroom. "I re-created them using the same
Microsoft clip art so I can have a teacher version "big book" in color as I do a first read with the kids each week. I also used the clip art to make pictures for the pocket chart.
I write each page (sentence by sentence) on sentence strips for the pocket chart. After the first reading, children take turns coming up and reading one sentence at a time in the pocket chart, then finding the picture to match. This is such a wonderful way to reinforce voice-print match, reading strategies (looking for the picture, re-reading and getting a running start, and getting their mouth ready by making the first sound of an unfamiliar word.) After a couple of days with this practice, I give them each their own copy - the ones from your site. This has brought such remarkable results with my readers. They are so confident - even the first month of school - using this method."
Martha has graciously agreed to share the Big Book Teacher Versions as well as the Pocket Chart Clipart. Thank you Martha for taking the time and effort to make
and share these resources!

Translations
Spanish - An ESL teacher, translator, and frequent visitor to Hubbard's Cupboard, Marina Insausti, agreed to help translate some of the printable booklets into Spanish! Also, thanks to Rosa Caballero-Perez for voluntarily translating a few of the newer booklets into Spanish as well.
French - Two French teachers, Lise Perreault and Kathy Jones, have volunteered to translate some booklets into French as
well.
German - A native born German, Tanja Bonaddio, who teaches a kindergarten Immersion class here in the United States contacted me regarding translating all of
the booklets into German.
Portuguese - Ana Cristina Sousa, a native from
Lisbon, Portugal, is the current Coordinator of Portuguese Programs in California and other Western States.
She is located at California State University. For more information, and more Portuguese resources please visit the Portuguese Language Network Online.
Janel Inderbitzen, a Californian of Portuguese descent, is a certified teacher and mother of 3. She recently joined the Portuguese Parent and Teacher Club created by Ana Cristina Sousa.
One of the Club's main activities is sharing, creating and online publishing of Portuguese materials.
A big thank you to all of our dedicated translators!

Multimedia - Digital and Audio Booklets
Waleska Batista and the Spanish teachers from Cherry Hill Public Schools have worked diligently on a project to create Quicktime
movies and audio files of the books being read aloud. Wow! This was quite an undertaking and many, many thanks need to head their way. Thank you!
Waleska suggests that the Quicktime movies can be downloaded to ipods or viewed on a screen. Also, the audio MP3s can be download, burned onto a CD, and possibly used at a
listening center with the printed booklets in classrooms that don't have enough computers or ipods available.
All of these files can be downloaded here as well as at Everyone Learns.
