May's Songs and Poems

We All Once Were Babies
(From stepbystepcc.com)
(Tune: 'The Farmer in the Dell')

We all once were babies.
We all once were babies.
Just like small du-ucklings,
We all once were babies.

Continue with additional verses...
Just like soft ki-ittens...
Just like sweet pu-uppies...
Just like pink pi-iglets...

I Am So Very Tall

I am so very tall. (Stand up on tiptoes and stretch your arms up high.)
I used to be so small. (Bend over and touch the floor.)
Now I am tall. (Stand up on tiptoes and stretch your arms up high.)
Now I am small.  (Bend over and touch the floor.)
And now you can't see me at all! (Squat all the way down and curl up into a ball.)

This Is the Way the Animals Move
(Tune: 'The Mulberry Bush)

This is the way the bunnies hop, the bunnies hop, the bunnies hop.
This is the way the bunnies hop on a warm spring day.

Continue with additional verses containing baby animal names and their movements...
ponies gallop
ducklings waddle
baby birds fly
kittens stretch
piglets snort
chicks scampers

Hush Little Baby

Hush little baby. Don't say a word.
Mama's going to buy you a mocking bird.

And if that mockingbird don't sing,
Mama's gonna buy you a diamond ring.

And if that diamond ring turns brass,
Mama's gonna buy you a looking glass.

And if that looking glass gets broke,
Mama's gonna buy you a billy goat.

And if that billy goat don't pull,
Mama's gonna buy you a cart and bull.

And if that cart and bull turn over,
Mama's gonna buy you a dog named Rover.

And if that dog named Rover won't bark.
Mama's gonna to buy you and horse and cart.

And if that horse and cart fall down,
You'll still be the sweetest little baby in town.

Color Vegetable Garden
(By Jean Warren)
(Tune: 'Down By the Station')

Out in the garden early in the morning,
See the red tomatoes all in a row.
See the happy farmer coming out to pick them,
Pick, pick, pick, pick, off he goes!

Add other colors and names of fruits and vegetables!

Planting
(From 1001 Rhymes and Fingerplays by Totline)
(Tune: 'Row Your Boat')

Plant, plant, plant your seeds.
In a long straight row.
Attend them well with gentleness.
And watch them as they grow!

We Are Seeds
(Tune: 'Frere Jacques')

We are seeds.  We are seeds.
In the ground. In the ground.
Waiting for the sun to shine on us.
And some rain, to come down!

We are growing.  We are growing.
Up so tall.  Up so tall.
Soon we will be flowers, pretty, pretty flowers.
In the garden. In the garden.

Planting Time
(From 1001 Rhymes and Fingerplays by Totline)
(Tune: 'Row Your Boat')

Dig, dig, in the ground. (Make digging movements.)
Plant seeds in a row. (Pretend to plant seeds.)
A gentle rain (Flutter fingers downward.)
And bright sunshine (Form a circle with your arms.)
Will help your flowers grow! (Squat down and gradually stand up.)

I'm a Little Sunflower
(Tune: 'I'm a Little Teapot')

I'm a little sunflower.
I'm so small.
(Sit on the ground.)

Soil.
(Place hands on the ground next to you.)

Sun.
(Place arms above head in the shape of a circle.)

And water make me tall.
(Flutter fingers and move hands downward to the ground.)

When I get all grown up,
(Sit up on knees.)

You will see.
(Stand with arms bent and touching waist.)

That I'm as big as I can be!
(Stand with arms raised high in the air.)
