Book Baskets

Our book baskets contain wordless books, ABC books, nursery rhymes, number concept books, kid magazines, little letter booklets, and copies of predictable books that we have read and/or sang as a class. We also have puppets or reading buddies so that students may choose to read with 'a friend.' When students 'revisit' books in our book baskets, they  are encouraged to read and touch all of the words (especially ABC books that contain a letter, a picture, and a word naming  the picture and familiar predictable books that we have read multiple times in class) or to "pretend read"  by either looking at the  pictures and making up a story about the things they see or by retelling the story and using story book language.
